California and Pennsylvania EMDR
I AM GLAD YOU ARE HERE!
Are you feeling stuck?
Maybe you’ve tried therapy before. It helped a little—you felt better after sessions—but your overall well-being didn’t improve. The patterns, distress, or shutdown kept coming back.
If that sounds familiar, EMDR can still help—even if it hasn’t in the past.
You might be wondering: Why would EMDR work for me now if it didn’t before?
The difference is how I approach it.
I integrate parts work with EMDR, which allows us to slow down and prepare your system before we move into desensitization. Instead of pushing past internal resistance, we work with the parts of you that may feel overwhelmed, protective, skeptical, or not ready. By addressing these obstacles upfront, EMDR becomes safer, more effective, and better tolerated.
Depending on your needs, EMDR combined with parts work can be a shorter-term, focused intervention designed to help you finally get unstuck—rather than revisiting the same insights without lasting change. You don’t need years of therapy to feel better.
EMDR with parts work can help with:
Repeating relationship patterns you can’t seem to break
Fears or phobias
Feeling emotionally “blocked,” numb, or overwhelmed
Reactions that feel bigger than the situation or hard to control
We move at the pace of your nervous system— and build change that actually lasts.
This can especially be helpful for neurodivergent adults who have had past therapy using models built for neurotypical nervous systems and don’t account for sensory needs, differences in processing speed, or protective coping strategies like masking. I will work with you to adapt EMDR to your nervous system’s needs.
I offer a free half-hour consultation so you can see whether this works for you. Schedule below on my Calendy, or if those times don’t work, email me, and we will find a time that works for you.
All services are provided via telehealth, and I can only serve those in Pennsylvania and California during the appointment.

Cathy Hanville, LCSW They/She
I feel like I am extraordinarily lucky to do this work. I spend my days helping people move past their anxiety. I have always loved hearing people’s stories. People who work with me love that I am interactive and have a good sense of humor. I believe there should also be a lot of laughter in the therapy room. Give me a call or email today to see if we are a good match to work together.

Perimenopause
Are you struggling with perimenopause-menopause? Come see the therapist who gets it. This time in your life can have many challengs to navigate: kids, parents, career, and horomonal shifts that make you feel crazy. Work with a provider who will validate your experience not minimize it.

EMDR
I use EMDR with many of my clients. I have found that EMDR has helped many people get unstuck from patterns and thoughts that they had struggled with for years. I currently focus on short term and intensive EMDR work. Meet your goals in less time. I do a free half hour consultation to see if you are a good match for this service.

Gender
Many people I work with identify as transgender or non-binary. However, you identify I am here to help you work through the process or work through whatever other struggles you have. For more information on my work with gender identity, click here.

Neurodivergence
If you are newly discovering your neurodivergence or have known for a while it is important to find a therapist who understands. I work from a neuro-affirming framework and am an ADHDer myself. Get support and if you want to do EMDR I will work with you so that you get the adapatations you need to make it work for your brain.
I am now offering Neuro-Affirming adult diagnostic evaluations for ADHD and Autism.
If these times do not work for you, feel free to email me to set up a time that works for your schedule.

Aphantasia: Can you picture the apple?
Aphantasia: Can you picture the apple? Close your eyes and imagine a red apple. Did you see it? The shine on the skin? The curve of its shape? For some people, that question is confusing—not because the apple is hard to imagine, but because there is no image at all. No picture, [...]
